Charge by Alex Bernasconi

Before you go getting all excited and thinking that James Brown has resurrected (and been sprinkled with some Otis Redding), the song I’ve picked out for this post is actually by Charles Bradley. He’s got plenty of soul in that voice, and this is displayed to full potential in ‘No Time For Dreaming’. It’s one of those ‘alarm call’ tracks you sometimes stumble upon. You’re gonna wake up to it when it goes off, or you get the feeling Charles will actually burst into the room and give you an almighty beat down otherwise. I thoroughly urge you to read the biography on Charles’ website, as he’s had an extraordinary life that has taken him all over America trying to entertain until Daptone Records presented him with this lifeline.

Finding an image for this was unexpectedly tough. The song is powerful, and all about putting yourself out there to fulfill your destiny. I came across ‘Charge’ by Alex Bernasconi via the World Photography Organisation, who have this listed in the Sony World Photography Awards. You can see why, as it demonstrates the power and authority of what is a knowledgeable animal. Like the song, the photograph is bold and jumps at you.
